Sustainable Tourism
Warq Tourism is dedicated to a more responsible and sustainable tourism industry. We aim to bring quality experiences to you during the visit of Spain and Portugal, while having a positive impact on the destination.
Environmental sustainability
Climate change is an undeniable fact that has tangible consequences all around the world. Spain in particular suffers from extensive fires during the summer, loss of biodiversity and marine life, and pollution in cities.
What do we do?
-
We try reducing our plastic use in the operations
-
We promote sustainable transportation (train, public transport, etc.)
-
We are against activities that cause animal abuse
Economic sustainability
While tourism employs one in ten people worldwide according to UNWTO, some destinations can experience up to 90% in economic leakage. This term refers to the money lost since services are provided by international communities and the money spent by tourists does not enrich the locals. In fact, in some cases it can lead to poverty as tourism causes gentrification in the most popular areas.
What do we do?
-
We give preference to small, local suppliers
-
We pay fair to our suppliers, employees, and collaborators
-
We promote the visits to less known destinations
Socio-cultural sustainability
Protecting local cultural heritage and the strength of the society is the last aspect of sustainability that often remains neglected. We have become increasingly disconnected as a society due to globalization and coming back to our routes is an important step towards a sustainable future.
What do we do?
-
We support local gastronomy
-
We promote local festivals and culture
-
We include traditional elements in the itineraries
Our work with the suppliers
We do not only work with sustainable suppliers, although those are always given preference. Warq Tourism uses its position on the market to start conversations, albeit at times difficult, to educate our suppliers about the importance of sustainability and press them to start applying sustainability principles.
